Gold Metal Detecting

This is one of my archived videos about gold metal detecting. But, although the video is a number of years old oh, the basic concepts that I talked about are still very relevant today.

I’ve been into gold detecting for many years. On many detecting trips that’s all I find is what’s pictured here in this video and that’s trash. But, when you do find that little gold nugget, it kind of makes up for all the times you just find trash.

If you love the outdoors like to get away from the big city and enjoy the adventure of hunting for gold, this might be a hobby for you to consider. If you think you’re going to get rich, going out gold prospecting, you’re going to be sadly disappointed.

All forms a gold prospecting required dedication and hard work. Just like any other hobby or sport, if you’re going to get into it, get the best equipment that you can reasonably afford. Do your research, talk to other prospectors and definitely visit your local prospecting dealer. As far as gold metal detectors go, you could probably get a good detector that would give you a decent chance of finding some gold in the Southern California and Arizona regions for somewhere between 500 to $900.

Always check BLM claim information first to be sure the areas you are going to are not an active mining claim or restricted State lands.

Lastly, keep in mind, that today gold is around $1,800 an ounce,  if it was easy and plentiful to find, like copper, it would be priced like copper, which today is $0.27 per ounce!
