In the early 1900s, gold was discovered in the Eldorado Mountains near Searchlight, Nevada, which is about 30 miles (48 km) north of Lake Mead. This discovery led to the development of several gold mines in the area, including the Duplex Mine, the Keystone Mine, and the Black Prince Mine.

In addition to the Eldorado Mountains, gold has also been found in other areas around Lake Mead, including the White Hills in Arizona and the Spring Mountains in Nevada. However, most of the gold deposits in these areas are relatively small and have been mined on a small scale.

Today, recreational gold prospecting is allowed in some areas around Lake Mead, but it’s important to research and obtain any necessary permits or permissions before prospecting. It’s also important to follow responsible and ethical prospecting techniques to minimize any impact on the environment.
